Abstract
Wolf-Ferrari / Dvořák
The violin concert D major by the composer Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari, born in Venice, lies in the tradition of the great violin concerts of the 19th century. From the changed musical language of the 20th century and its origin during the Second World War, the work remains completely untouched. Written in deep admiration for the American violinist Guila Bustabo, the highly romantic composition seems completely inward-facing and free of time. The Austrian violinist Benjamin Schmid has already recorded the concert in a highly acclaimed recording and now interprets it with the Philharmonia Zürich under the conduction of Gustavo Gimeno. In the same concert, the Eighth Symphony G major by Antonín Dvořák will be heard, which is entirely committed to the folkloristic bohemian idiom.
