Harald Schmidt and
«Der fliegende Holländer»
Screening of the opera and a show with the entertainer on the evening before ballett für alle
We’ll get things started one day in advance of ballett für alle, the Opernhaus Zürich’s fan favorite open-air festival on the Sechseläutenplatz. Harald Schmidt, the king of satire and German entertainment’s riot act, will appear in advance of a screening of Wagner’s «Der fliegende Holländer» in a production from the 2012/13 season. Schmidt will personally deliver an introduction to this mystery thriller opera, presenting a show that examines the ghostly Dutchman captain and the controversial composer Richard Wagner in Schmidt’s very own special way (in German).
Welsh baritone Bryn Terfel appears on the big screen in the title role of the Dutchman. Terfel is one of the world’s most sought-after singers, and his interpretation is itself the stuff of legends. The production is from Opernhaus Zürich boss Andreas Homoki, and Alain Altinoglu conducts the Philharmonia Zürich.
