Folk melodies
Works by Aram Chatschaturjan and Béla Bartók
Bartlomiej Niziol, Violin
Robert Pickup, Clarinet
Anna Hauner, Piano
Béla Bartók collected folk songs in his youth and made numerous trips through his homeland, the former Kingdom of Hungary. In many of his later compositions, Bartók commemorated the folklore of his native country, including the 1928 Rhapsody No. 2 for violin and piano, and the chamber music Contrasts for violin, clarinet and piano, with which the Hungarian, exiled in the 1940s, presented himself in the New York Carnegie Hall. Many of Aram Khachaturian's compositions, including the 1932 Trio, testify to his fascination for the folk music of his homeland Armenia and the surrounding areas. Violinist Bartlomiej Niziol, clarinetist Robert Pickup and pianist Anna Hauner present these three folkloristic chamber music works in our Brunch and Lunch Concerts.
A wide variety of ensembles consisting of members of the Philharmonia Zurich will also be presenting chamber music programmes in the course of our relaxed and intimate series of Brunch and Lunch Concerts this season. Together with the musicians, discover hidden musical gems, unusual arrangements of familiar pieces, and special auditory adventures.
