Abstract
Scarlatti
Nicola Antonio Porpora and Alessandro Scarlatti are among the most important opera composers of the early 18th century. Porpora was Händel's biggest competitor in London and, moreover, teacher of the most famous singers of his time, while Scarlatti created distinctive works of the Neapolitan opera style. But the two great masters of vocal composition also turned to spiritual texts. In 1723, for example, Scarlatti composed the Stabat mater for two singers and small ensembles, a passionate story from Mother Mary’s point of view. In 1733, Porpora composed a virtuous Salve regina for the alto voice. Ottavio Dantone, who has already directed Vivaldi's La verità in cimento at the Zurich Opera House and is returning to Monteverdis L'incoronazione di Poppea, is in charge of the orchestra La Scintilla. The soloists are Ana Quintans (Soprano) and Wiebke Lehmkuhl (Alto).
The concert will be recorded by Radio SRF 2 Kultur
