Abstract
Ravel / Strawinsky
When Teodor Currentzis stands at the desk, musical extremes are guaranteed. Unleashed, tart or explosive are words often used to describe the sound of the orchestra under his conduction. In Zurich, the fascinating conductor could already be seen with Shostakovich's Lady Macbeth of Mzensk and Verdis Macbeth. Now he returns for the 4th Philharmonic Concert of this season. The playful, melancholic G major piano concert by Maurice Ravel is a promising highlight of this concert season in the joint interpretation with the acclaimed pianist Hélène Grimaud. The third Feuervogel suite is also included in the program, which Igor Stravinsky composed in 1945 out of his popular ballet music for the Ballets Russes.
Glut by Dieter Ammann also features a Swiss composition directed by Hans-Peter Achberger. As a conductor, especially of newer music, Achberger conducted concert tours to South America and Japan. At the opera house he most recently conducted Gustav Mahler's Lied von der Erde in the version of Arnold Schönberg and a program with works by Yannis Xenakis.
