Abstract
Prokofjew Dvořák
In the middle of Sergei Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 1 in D major there isn't a slow movement, as is usually the case in classical instrumental concertos, but a scherzo of breathtaking virtuosity. Prokofiev introduces the lyrical, cantabile tone in this unconventional youthful work in the very first bars. In our 5th Philharmonic Concert, the Canadian James Ehnes presents himself for the first time in Zurich with this violin concerto. The violinist began his internationally successful career on the American continent, where he has already worked with Gianandrea Noseda on several occasions. As General Music Director, Noseda will also be on the podium of the Philharmonia Zurich in this concert, combining the Prokofiev concerto with the 7th Symphony in D minor by Antonín Dvořák.
