Introductory Matinee Platée
Platée, one of the craziest works of the Baroque era, comes to the Zurich stage in December. At the centre of Jean-Philippe Rameau's opera is a love-addicted water nymph who Jupiter himself is supposedly interested in. Situated somewhere between comedy and tragedy, between opera and ballet, Rameau's ballet bouffon calls all firmly established values into question. Director Jetske Mijnssen and conductor Emmanuelle Haïm, who are continuing their successful collaboration with Platée after Rameau's Hippolyte et Aricie at Opernhaus Zürich, explain their view of this masterpiece at the matinee - together with other participants in the production.
