Einführungsmatinée La rondine

We open the new season with a small sensation: Giacomo Puccini's opera La rondine (The Swallow) has never been shown in Switzerland before. Unjustly, this work leads a neglected existence in the repertoire of opera houses next to Puccini's blockbusters such as La bohème or Tosca. «Similar to Der Rosenkavalier, only more entertaining and organic» (Puccini) was the aim of the new opera, which premiered in Monte-Carlo due to the turmoil of the First World War. Dramaturg Kathrin Brunner talks to director Christof Loy and the singers Ermonela Jaho, Benjamin Bernheim, Sandra Hamaoui and Juan Francisco Gatell about the many special aspects of this opera.
