Abstract
Corelli / Pergolesi / Vivaldi
Riccardo Minasi and the Orchestra La Scintilla close out the season by setting the mood for summer holidays: Rome, Florence, Bergamo, Naples, and Bologna are the stops on their Giro d'Italia, which features works of the early Italian symphonic repertoire. Arcangelo Corelli (1653-1713), whose famous «Concerto grosso op. 6 no. 9» is on the program, worked in Rome. In Florence we meet Giuseppe Valentini (1681-1753), whose works were performed throughout Europe during his lifetime, but subsequently faded into obscurity. Bergamo is the birthplace of Pietro Antonio Locatelli (1695-1764), whose «Concerto grosso op. 1 no. 5» is heavily inspired by Corelli’s «Concerti grossi». Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, the «angelico maestro» (Vincenzo Bellini), was active in Naples. He may have died of tuberculosis at the age of 26, but his Stabat mater made him immortal – here, his «Streichersinfonia f-Moll» will be performed in concert. The last two musical cities on this tour are Bologna and Venice: Gaetano Zavateri (1690-1764) was born in Bologna, and Antonio Vivaldi is arguably Venice’s most famous son. The latter’s «Concerto per 4 Violini op. 3 no. 7», which belongs to a cycle of twelve concerti and was published under the title «L'Estro Armonico» (The Harmonic Inspiration), concludes our journey.
