Abstract
Piano Quartets II
Besides the opera Le nozze di Figaro, Mozart also worked on his first piano quartet K. 478 in 1785. Instead of light salon music, as the publisher had requested, he delivered a work that irritates at the beginning with somber G minor. Robert Schumann's only piano quartet in E-flat major, op. 48, was written in 1842. Whereas in Mozart's work the piano takes center stage as in a concerto, Schumann's four voices are organically balanced.
