Abstract
Short Symphony
Paris around 1880 meets New York in 1939 in the first brunch/lunch concert - and that's exactly how different the two works sound: César Franck's extensive Piano Quintet in F minor comes up with a rich, late-Romantic sound spectrum, Aaron Copland's Sextet for clarinet, piano and string quartet with intricate rhythms. Copland himself arranged this instrumentation, starting from his Second Symphony, which lasts only 15 minutes and is therefore also called Short Symphony.
