Abstract
Atelier obscura
On the day of the world premiere of Stefan Wirth's opera Girl with a Pearl Earring, there will be a chamber music concert in the Spiegelsaal for which the composer has written another piece: This Gran Siciliano, hot off the press, is played on historical keyboard and string instruments and sounds in the so-called "mid-tone tuning", which was especially common in the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Compositions by Orlando di Lasso, Erich Wolfgang Korngold and George Benjamin, written far apart in time, complement this work. Stefan Wirth will lead through the programme and play the piano. Also featured are strings from the Philharmonia Zurich, Brian Feehan (lute/theorbo) and Naoki Kitaya (harpsichord).
Once again this season, various ensemble formations of the Philharmonia Zurich present chamber music in the loosely intimate series of our brunch and lunch concerts. Together with the musicians, you will discover trouvailles of works, well-known works in unusual arrangements and listening adventures of a special kind.
The chamber concerts take place in the magnificent Spiegelsaal of the Opera House. Afterwards, we look forward to welcoming you to the new Bernadette Restaurant for brunch or lunch à la carte. Reserve your table with a splendid view of the glittering Lake Zurich and the lively Sechseläutenplatz at +41 44 268 64 64 or www.bernadette.ch.
