In William Shakespeare’s celebrated tragedy «Romeo und Julia», the power of love allows two young people to transcend limitations and overcome all obstacles. But their union is doomed from the very start: the two come from families that are sworn enemies. In the end, Romeo and Julia must pay for their love with their lives.
Christian Spuck presents the most famous love story the world has ever known in striking pictures, full of gripping theatricality and touching emotion. His production has not only sold out shows in Zurich, but also thrilled audiences at guest performances in Tel Aviv, Bogotá, and Stuttgart. The ballet is inspired by Sergei Prokofiev’s colorful and glowing music, which brilliantly captures the clash of love and hate alongside the coexistence of tenderness and violence. Ultimately, it gives rise to an emotional immediacy one cannot escape. Masterful Prokofiev interpreter Michail Jurowski leads from the podium of the Philharmonia Zürich.
